Yoko Ono? Oh yes!

It has come to my attention that the Plastic Ono Band has reformed, has an album out, and is planning a reunion concert. Wow!

So here we go....

I've said before that I'm not good with reviews....but that's not going to stop me from giving an opinion. First some facts about the album Between My Head And The Sky. Yoko is joined by her son, and co-producer, Sean Lennon, and creative Japanese artists Haruomi Hosono,Yuka Honda and Cornelius (Keigo Oyamada, Naoki Shimizu and Yuko Araki). The album has received rave reviews by Rolling Stone, Mojo, and Spin, to name a few.

The question is: Does this impress me? The answer is: NO! So I decided to find out for myself.

Love her, or hate her, Yoko Ono is one unique individual to say the least. Personally, because of my love for John Lennon, and out of respect for him and their son Sean, I've learned to tolerate her. Although her singing (if you want to call it that) I have not learned to accept. Never will. With that in mind, I listened to excerpts of each track on the CD. I have to say that I am impressed. Seriously. The album is a mix of raw rockin'-out funk, techno, psychedelia, and Yoko's own brand of artsy babble. Personally I dig the rockin' funk. The first cut is called "Waiting For The D Train". I couldn't help but like it. It reminded me of the Plastic Ono Band of old when John was heading the group. Some raw raunchy Rock!! Other tracks along this line include, "Ask The Elephant!", "Hashire, Hashire!", and the title track, "Between My Head And The Sky". The techno tracks include, "The Sun Is Down!", "Moving Mountains", and "Watching The Rain". Mostly these tracks include techno beats with Yoko spouting some of her artsy poetry stuff...if you want to call it that. I noticed two tunes that may be somewhat retrospective for Yoko, "Memory Of Footsteps" and "I'm Going Away Smiling". These tracks are backed by piano and strings. It seemed to me from the snippets I heard that she may have been talking about her past with John....remembering him. The rest of the tunes, which are many, are the artsy, psychedelic stuff that I mentioned earlier. Not really my bag, man! IF any of you decide to purchase this CD, be forewarned that Yoko's warbling occurs throughout this album....that means on all songs!

Now the question is: Would I buy it? The answer is: Nope. There are only a few tunes I like on the album, the raunchy rock stuff. Other than that, the rest is filler for me. And that's just not enough for me to shell out my money for the entire CD. Maybe downloads of the tunes I liked. Maybe!

The concert!

Just like the poster says, the new Plastic Ono Band will perform a concert February 16, 2010, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Included will be original members Eric Clapton and Klaus Voormann. Paul Simon and Bette Midler will be getting in on the act as well. This should be an interesting show. I look forward to the reviews.

Now it's time for....
